Panasonic announces new Micro Four Third Camera, the DMC-GF3 and Leica 25/1.4 Lens

Panasonic DMC-GF 3

I just read via Photo Rumors that Panasonic announce a new Micro Four Third Camera, the GF 3. Looks like an interesting camera. From what I saw there is no option to add an external flash. I will check this out further. This is pretty interesting in my quest to find the perfect compact camera and developments are fast these days. I had quick look at some example images here and it seems that high ISO performance is better than in other Micro Four Thirds.

Here is the press release from Panasonic:

LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 ASPH

This is really exciting news. In 35mm terms, the 25mm/1.4 is a 50mm lens. A Leica lens has the promise of high quality. Most importantly, you will be able to shoot at low light without going into too high ISO settings. This new lens and camera point into some exciting developments in the Four Thirds market with the aim on more professional photographers, though the GF 3 is still aimed at more entry level photographers. It is worthwhile, keeping an eye on the developments.

I am waiting for getting access to the cameras to test in real life situations, so I decided to discuss some technical factors in non technical language.

Choosing the right camera is based on many factors and it is important to know which factors count. Sensor size is an important factor, as is lens quality. Continue reading

My wife, also wants a compact digital camera and not rely on my DSLR for her photographic needs. So I started investigating the market. Continue reading
